Breast Lift

From ageing, weight loss, reduction surgery or breastfeeding, the tissue and skin of the breasts lose elastic fibres, resulting in drooping. A lift can help regain volume and elasticity. The procedure takes 3-5 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. You must fast for 8 hours before surgery and plan on being hospitalised for a day. The sutures are removed after 1 week.

Breast Reduction

If your breasts feel heavy, bulky and cause back pain, you may be an appropriate candidate for a breast reduction. This procedure takes 3-5 hours while you are under general anesthesia. You must fast for 8 hours beforehand and plan on being hospitalised for one day. The sutures are removed after 1 week.

There are three methods for breast reduction:

  1. Vertical incision. The surgical area is designed, then a vertical incision made. Part of the skin around the areola and nipple is excised and then fat and mammary gland tissue can be removed. The nipple and areola are then put back into place.
  2. Areola incision. The surgical area is designed and then an incision is made around the areola. A part of the skin around the areola and nipple is excised and then fat and mammary gland tissue can be removed.
  3. Complex incision. The surgical area is designed and incisions are made vertically from the areola and horizontally by the breast line. Fat and mammary gland tissue are removed and the areola and nipple replaced.

Nipple Reduction

If your nipple is abnormally large or retracted, you can gain a more pleasing nipple shape and your ability to properly breastfeed. The procedure takes place over an hour while you are under general anesthesia. You must fast for eight hours before surgery. The sutures are taken out after 10-14 days.

There are two methods of this surgery:

  1. Preserved mammary duct. Breastfeeding is still possible when the nipple is incised and sutured, avoiding the mammary duct.
  2. Non-preserved mammary duct. The nipple is incised in a V-shape and sutured, reducing the size and length of the nipple but not permitting breastfeeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the anesthesia used safe?

We perform breast surgery under general anesthesia so that you are unconscious during the procedure. A board-certified anesthesiologist supervises you to ensure your safety.

What type of incisions are made for a breast augmentation?

There are four options for incision: around the nipple and areolas, along the fold just below the breasts, within the underarm and from the navel. Your individual circumstances, goals and body type will determine the most appropriate incision site.

Should the implants be placed above or below the muscle tissue?

You can choose to have your implant below the pectoral muscle and breast tissue or only under the breast tissue. Under the tissue and muscle will give a more natural appearance for women who are slender and do not have an adequate amount of breast tissue to go over the implant.

Fuller-figure women may choose to have the implant below the breast tissue only. Dual planing can then be chosen to improve the breast shape, which releases a portion of the inferior pectoral muscle, increasing space and allowing breast tissues to relax more for a natural appearance.

What is capsular contracture?

When an unfamiliar substance like a breast implant enters the body, your immune system produces fibrosis cells and collagen fibres, which surround the implant. Though a natural reaction, the fibres can create a hard coating called capsular contracture. This process causes the hardening of breast tissue, distorting the shape and changing the implant position.

It happens most often 4-8 months post-surgery, making your aftercare of utmost importance.

What can I do to minimise the chance of capsular contracture?

Any risk is minimised by following postoperative instructions, though you may have a reaction to the silicon and there is a risk of infection, bleeding, hematomas, necrosis tissue or immune deficiency. Our trained breast care specialist will show you how to perform the self-massage that will keep your implant feeling natural and staying healthy.
